Foolish Hopes

Written by Kehwie
Rating: Teen and up

Vala Mal Doran had always gone out of her way to avoid feeling like a fool. And she knew that hope was the most foolish thing of all. But a certain archaeologist made her hope again. When she thought he dashed those hopes, she attempted to rebuild her armor-with very little success.

My notes:

The premise is definitely a bit contrived, but that doesn’t end up mattering because this is so well written. The character analysis is spot on and the way Daniel reflects on their relationship and the individual ways they sabotage themselves is insightfully accurate. This is my favourite quote because it just hits th... Read more

The Most Beautiful Words

In response to the prompt “Things you said in our vows”. Post Amor Fati fic.

My notes:

Exactly the way Amor Fati should have ended after the touchstone scene. Really well written analysis from Scully’s POV in response to the implications of what Mulder said to her, and to what she then confirmed back to him. Those were essentially wedding vows that were just never acknowledged, along with the rest of t... Read more

Together

Taking place a few weeks after Unending, Vala is having trouble dealing with the emotional side effect resulting of her plan from Dominion. Daniel helps her resolve her issues.

My notes:

A lovely introspective piece told from Daniel’s POV. After Vala’s reminded of one of her false Dominion memories, Daniel follows her as she runs off. They fall into an honest conversation about her fears of what relying too much on people is doing to her, and it helps Daniel reflect on Vala’s behavior over... Read more

The Unending Story

Written by WolfenM

Stories of life aboard the Odyssey while SG-1 and General Landry were stuck in the time-dilation bubble of the episode “Unending”.

My notes:

A 3-part series that starts by following Daniel and Vala during “that scene” in Unending in part 1 (A Love-Hate Thing), then showing the rest of the team observing the changes in D/V’s relationship in part 2 (Cats, Candles, and Confessions), culminating in the meatiest part of this series (part 3 – I... Overture in Slow Motion

Written by L_C
Rating: Not rated

Overture – noun
1) an opening or initiating move toward negotiation, a new relationship.

Slow motion – adjective
2) moving or proceeding at a slow rate.

Injuries sustained during his trip to Atlantis remind Daniel that “life is short”.

Incomplete

My notes:

Love this one. It really immerses you in the story and the POVs feel very realistic. It’ll probably never be finished, sadly, but if you read it as a prelude more than a full deep dive then it’s satisfying enough.

Walls

Vala breaks down walls. Jack approves. Set post-Counterstrike, pre-The Quest.

My notes:

Love this little slice of Jack’s perspective on Daniel and Vala. This quote is beautifully put, and exactly why I think Vala is so good for Daniel: It wasn’t that he liked seeing Daniel taken down a notch, though, of course, he did. It was that Daniel had, over the course of the decade Jack had known him, manage... Read more

And when you’ve stopped running we’ll rest

Daniel and Vala’s grown child carries the crystal back in time, and then has to figure out how to belong in our world. Unending AU. D/V. OC. All the team is there.

My notes:

This is a really thoughtful, introspective AU that explores the premise that, instead of Teal’c, Daniel and Vala’s grown son Kieran comes back in time and has to find a place for himself in this now altered timeline. His interactions with each member of SG-1 are nuanced and do each character justice, while intro... Read more

Normal Conversations

It always bothered me that Mulder had a degree in psychology but only seemed to use it on other people. Also I know it was the 90s, but everybody in this show needed a minimum 400 years of therapy. And yes, there’s eventually sex.

My notes:

Completely hot while being a genuinely fantastic character analysis of Mulder.
