Summary
In response to the prompt “Things you said in our vows”. Post Amor Fati fic.
My notes
Exactly the way Amor Fati should have ended after the touchstone scene. Really well written analysis from Scully’s POV in response to the implications of what Mulder said to her, and to what she then confirmed back to him.
Those were essentially wedding vows that were just never acknowledged, along with the rest of the lazy/convoluted excuses for keeping their relationship in line with some imagined status quo that never existed.
Favorite quote:
And his words. God, his words. She abandoned wish-upon-a-star wedding fantasies long ago, but his words… He wore white gauze on his head, but it was she who felt a veil tickling at her neck. ‘Constant’, ‘touchstone’. The hushed arrow-tip of his voice pierced her heart with a precision that astounded her. She had no time to hide, no time to deflect. Only time to gaze into his eyes and answer with an honesty that, looking back, terrifies her.
