Course Correction

Different ending to “Course: Oblivion,” VOY 5×18, if the Silver Blood Voyager had been able to launch their probe prior to disintegrating.

My notes:

This is such a sweet and fun episode coda for Course: Oblivion. They really capture Tom and B’Elanna’s dry banter and teasing nature while grounding it in the straight-forward, pragmatic way they deal with each other in serious moments.

So Then

An alternate ending for The Shroud that’s somewhat light on plot, but heavy on the fruitcake.

My notes:

A lovely little moment set near the end of The Shroud where Vala welcomes Daniel back home and can’t hide how she’s worried for him. One of my favorite quotes: Vala could light up rooms with that smile. No, that cliché was inadequate — she could light up planets. Whole planets.

The Sudden Stop

When Tom and B’Elanna are falsely convicted of an act of terrorism and thrown into an alien prison, they have to rely on each other until Captain Janeway and the crew of Voyager can rescue them. They revisit old ghosts and form unexpected bonds while they fight to survive, but being back on Voyager doesn’t necessarily mean they feel safe again.

My take on The Chute and its aftermath, leading into The Swarm.

My notes:

A really fantastic take on the premise “What if it was Tom and B’Elanna imprisoned in The Chute?” The author immerses you in what living through that experience would have truly been like, and how it would impact Tom and B’Elanna’s relationship with each other, both during and afterward. After finding Vala and convincing her not to run, Daniel drives them back to Cheyenne Mountain

or: a(n almost) coda for Memento Mori

My notes:

The imagery this writer creates and the way she describes the nature of Daniel and Vala’s relationship is truly beautiful. Every sentence seems perfectly crafted with another poetic observation of their push and pull with each other. Favourite part: “But he can’t do that to her; that’s how they work. They mi... In response to the prompt “Things you said in our vows”. Post Amor Fati fic.

My notes:

Exactly the way Amor Fati should have ended after the touchstone scene. Really well written analysis from Scully’s POV in response to the implications of what Mulder said to her, and to what she then confirmed back to him. Those were essentially wedding vows that were just never acknowledged, along with the rest of t... Read more

The Unending Story

Stories of life aboard the Odyssey while SG-1 and General Landry were stuck in the time-dilation bubble of the episode “Unending”.

My notes:

A 3-part series that starts by following Daniel and Vala during “that scene” in Unending in part 1 (A Love-Hate Thing), then showing the rest of the team observing the changes in D/V’s relationship in part 2 (Cats, Candles, and Confessions), culminating in the meatiest part of this series (part 3 – I... Daniel and Vala discover that letting the NID deal with Athena is easier said than done. A Memento Mori sequel that resists simple classification.

My notes:

Both an interesting mission fic and a fun exploration into SG-1’s team bonding and banter-y shenanigans, of which I’m always a fan. The slow burn is delicious, heartwarming, and delightful, as D/V is wont to be. It’s worth highlighting the line “I’ve been so afraid of falling in love again that it took... Read more
