The Mesas of Deuteronilus Mensae

Fandom: The X-Files
Rating: Explicit

Dr. Dana Scully is a last minute replacement amongst the crew of the first human colony on Mars. Dr. Fox Mulder, fellow scientist and crew psychologist, is immediately intrigued.

My notes:

Amazingly well researched AU about Mulder and Scully being among the first pioneers to colonize Mars. Mix in some suspense and some will they won’t they space sex and you’ve got the perfect AU.

One Step at a Time

A series of scenes starting immediately after 10.07 Counterstrike and ending after 10.20 Unending, detailing the progression of Daniel and Vala’s relationship.

All Vala wanted was to conquer the challenge Daniel had unwittingly presented. Once she had her victory, she’d drop it and Daniel wasn’t sure he could survive that.

My notes:

Told from Daniel’s perspective, a small behind the scenes look at Daniel and Vala’s relationship as it evolved after Counterstrike onward. I love the introspective yet cautious way Daniel navigates his need to be around Vala without challenging his comfort zone or confronting his feelings too directly. He’... Read more

No Place Like Home

Daniel and Vala discover that letting the NID deal with Athena is easier said than done. A Memento Mori sequel that resists simple classification.

My notes:

Both an interesting mission fic and a fun exploration into SG-1’s team bonding and banter-y shenanigans, of which I’m always a fan. The slow burn is delicious, heartwarming, and delightful, as D/V is wont to be. It’s worth highlighting the line “I’ve been so afraid of falling in love again that it took... Read more

Overture in Slow Motion

Rating: Not rated

Overture – noun
1) an opening or initiating move toward negotiation, a new relationship.

Slow motion – adjective
2) moving or proceeding at a slow rate.

Injuries sustained during his trip to Atlantis remind Daniel that “life is short”.

Incomplete

My notes:

Love this one. It really immerses you in the story and the POVs feel very realistic. It’ll probably never be finished, sadly, but if you read it as a prelude more than a full deep dive then it’s satisfying enough.

And when you’ve stopped running we’ll rest

Daniel and Vala’s grown child carries the crystal back in time, and then has to figure out how to belong in our world. Unending AU. D/V. OC. All the team is there.

My notes:

This is a really thoughtful, introspective AU that explores the premise that, instead of Teal’c, Daniel and Vala’s grown son Kieran comes back in time and has to find a place for himself in this now altered timeline. His interactions with each member of SG-1 are nuanced and do each character justice, while intro... Read more

Honor Amongst Thieves

Vala Mal Doran steals a cargo ship, but wrecks it on a backwater little farm planet whose people don’t even speak a dialect she can understand. Fortunately, there is a stranger living among them who is able to translate. He arrived on that planet in a flash of light only months before, and has yet to remember who he is. When a conversation with the incorrigible thief leads him to remember his name, Daniel agrees to travel with her through the Stargate to find his past.

Break the Lock

Daniel and Vala learn how to get along. Be friends, even. They insist that’s all there is to it. They’re wrong.

My notes:

A wonderful slow burn that shows Daniel and Vala starting to spend more down time together after a shift in their dynamic has led to a bit of unrest between them. Vala has been demonstrating a genuine interest in Daniel’s archaeological passions for some time, and while that allows them to work together more seamlessl... Read more

Significant

“Do you have a significant other?”
“Um, not in the widely understood definition of that term.”
Scully was his best friend. His work partner. His emergency contact. His dry cleaning buddy. She was significant to him in every way but one…

My notes:

This is everything. I love the way they come together here. So naturally, so inevitably. Real, adult affection, the angst kept to a realistic minimum considering how long they’ve been best friends. Things have slowly evolved to both of their notice, until they just fluidly cross the last line. I love how they can̵... Read more

Not Time’s Fool

2012 – And there she was, the star to his wand’ring bark, forever guiding his thoughts to her, to home. Time had moved on since he saw her (far too much time), but she was as he remembered (constantly imagines): beautiful, elegant, arms full of books, of course. His stomach flipped.

2016 – She had no job, no partner, no home. Adrift in every aspect of her life. She felt battered by self-doubt and dissatisfaction; one too many hits were pulling her beneath the waves and threatening to drown her.
But then there he was. Her ever-fixed mark, unshakeable when faced with her tempests.

The bits post-series/pre-AYITL and during AYITL that we didn’t get to see. AYITL-compliant, but complete wish-fulfilment on my part about who the baby daddy is!

I feel this is more story with added sex rather than straight forward smut, but what sex there is IS explicit, hence the rating. But there’s lots of heart, stolen glances, things unsaid, things said, fluff, love and pining thrown in there.

My notes:

This is just so achingly beautiful and perfect. This one leaves me warm and fuzzy. Great characterization too. Just. Ugh.

The Places You Don’t Walk Away From

Just as Rory adjusts to her big news, life throws her for another loop. As she dives into a new project, she reconnects with an old friend and begins to wonder: Can you ever move forward by going back? Post-AYITL.

My notes:

Just… absolute favorite. Rory’s evolution and growth is beautifully done. Excellent characterization, and really lovely and realistic interpretation of Rory and Jess.
