One Step at a Time

Written by besully
Rating: Teen and up

A series of scenes starting immediately after 10.07 Counterstrike and ending after 10.20 Unending, detailing the progression of Daniel and Vala’s relationship.

All Vala wanted was to conquer the challenge Daniel had unwittingly presented. Once she had her victory, she’d drop it and Daniel wasn’t sure he could survive that.

My notes:

Told from Daniel’s perspective, a small behind the scenes look at Daniel and Vala’s relationship as it evolved after Counterstrike onward. I love the introspective yet cautious way Daniel navigates his need to be around Vala without challenging his comfort zone or confronting his feelings too directly. He’... Read more

No Place Like Home

Daniel and Vala discover that letting the NID deal with Athena is easier said than done. A Memento Mori sequel that resists simple classification.

My notes:

Both an interesting mission fic and a fun exploration into SG-1’s team bonding and banter-y shenanigans, of which I’m always a fan. The slow burn is delicious, heartwarming, and delightful, as D/V is wont to be. It’s worth highlighting the line “I’ve been so afraid of falling in love again that it took... Read more

Overture in Slow Motion

Written by L_C
Rating: Not rated

Overture – noun
1) an opening or initiating move toward negotiation, a new relationship.

Slow motion – adjective
2) moving or proceeding at a slow rate.

Injuries sustained during his trip to Atlantis remind Daniel that “life is short”.

Incomplete

My notes:

Love this one. It really immerses you in the story and the POVs feel very realistic. It’ll probably never be finished, sadly, but if you read it as a prelude more than a full deep dive then it’s satisfying enough.

Judge of Character

General Hammond has always believed himself to be a good judge of character, which is why, after an alien space pirate hijacked the Prometheus, he decides to offer the eccentric space pirate a chance to join the SGC, using Daniel Jackson as an incentive to persuade her. He is also interested to see how things play out between her and a certain archeologist. D/V, smidge of J/S.

My notes:

Really well-paced and has excellent mission storylines. I love the premise of Vala being drawn into the fold right after Prometheus Unbound by Hammond. I always thought we never got to see enough of Vala and the way she so seamlessly integrated into SG-1. I love how this slight venture into AU territory makes the beginning... Read more

Significant

“Do you have a significant other?”
“Um, not in the widely understood definition of that term.”
Scully was his best friend. His work partner. His emergency contact. His dry cleaning buddy. She was significant to him in every way but one…

My notes:

This is everything. I love the way they come together here. So naturally, so inevitably. Real, adult affection, the angst kept to a realistic minimum considering how long they’ve been best friends. Things have slowly evolved to both of their notice, until they just fluidly cross the last line. I love how they can̵... Read more

Mulder and Scully return to the City of Brotherly Love to assist in the capture of a murderer who seems to be taking his inspiration from the most famous serial killer of all time.

My notes:

A really good case fic and some delicious and flirty MSR with minor Diana drama. Perfect amount.

So Comes Love

Rating: General audiences

A version of how Daniel and Vala, with a little nudge from Teal’c, finally get together. Post-series, following “Unending” (S10E20).

My notes:

This is just SO quintessentially Daniel. Everything about this. In fact, I’m pretty sure this is exactly what would happen if Daniel found out anything about what happened on the Odyssey.

Scully picks the next game.

(A post-The Unnatural story)

My notes:

After Mulder teaches Scully how to play baseball, Scully decides to teach Mulder pool. Then Mulder teaches Scully how to play volleyball. Then Scully shows Mulder archery, etc. This series is deliciously innuendo-heavy. The writers take turns exploring the different ‘lessons’ Mulder and Scully use as an excuse t... Read more

Looking Back: Nine Moments That Changed Things

Fandom: The X-Files

Nine little scenes that bring Mulder and Scully closer together from Alpha to all things.

My notes:

A lovely progression fic with great dialogue. There is a particularly fitting analogy woven throughout their conversations about “taking ice cream out of the freezer”.
