burn the shoes and boil the rice

Five times Daniel and Vala got married, and one time they didn’t.

My notes:

This one makes me tear up it’s so lovely. All of the fake marriage scenarios are inventive and delightfully amusing – their antagonistic banter is just on point. In contrast, the last ‘scenario’ squeezes my heart so brilliantly, even after having read this quite a few times. Vala pushes as she does,... Read more

The Unending Story

Rating: Teen and up

Stories of life aboard the Odyssey while SG-1 and General Landry were stuck in the time-dilation bubble of the episode “Unending”.

My notes:

A 3-part series that starts by following Daniel and Vala during “that scene” in Unending in part 1 (A Love-Hate Thing), then showing the rest of the team observing the changes in D/V’s relationship in part 2 (Cats, Candles, and Confessions), culminating in the meatiest part of this series (part 3 – I... No Place Like Home

Daniel and Vala discover that letting the NID deal with Athena is easier said than done. A Memento Mori sequel that resists simple classification.

My notes:

Both an interesting mission fic and a fun exploration into SG-1’s team bonding and banter-y shenanigans, of which I’m always a fan. The slow burn is delicious, heartwarming, and delightful, as D/V is wont to be. It’s worth highlighting the line “I’ve been so afraid of falling in love again that it took... Read more

The Many Paths of Daniel Jackson

Written by evrymeeveryyou
Rating: Teen and up

Every possibility, every choice I had ever made, even choices I hadn’t, led to an entirely different life until I could no longer tell reality from its alternates.

My notes:

Daniel touches a mysterious crystal (which is just so Daniel) and starts experiencing various alternate realities and timelines his life might take. Not being able to discern what’s real as he’s living each moment, it sends him spiralling gradually into madness as SG-1 (plus Jack) tries desperately to save him. ... Read more

Mulder and Scully return to the City of Brotherly Love to assist in the capture of a murderer who seems to be taking his inspiration from the most famous serial killer of all time.

My notes:

A really good case fic and some delicious and flirty MSR with minor Diana drama. Perfect amount.

Not Time’s Fool

2012 – And there she was, the star to his wand’ring bark, forever guiding his thoughts to her, to home. Time had moved on since he saw her (far too much time), but she was as he remembered (constantly imagines): beautiful, elegant, arms full of books, of course. His stomach flipped.

2016 – She had no job, no partner, no home. Adrift in every aspect of her life. She felt battered by self-doubt and dissatisfaction; one too many hits were pulling her beneath the waves and threatening to drown her.
But then there he was. Her ever-fixed mark, unshakeable when faced with her tempests.

The bits post-series/pre-AYITL and during AYITL that we didn’t get to see. AYITL-compliant, but complete wish-fulfilment on my part about who the baby daddy is!

I feel this is more story with added sex rather than straight forward smut, but what sex there is IS explicit, hence the rating. But there’s lots of heart, stolen glances, things unsaid, things said, fluff, love and pining thrown in there.

My notes:

This is just so achingly beautiful and perfect. This one leaves me warm and fuzzy. Great characterization too. Just. Ugh.

“How many identical days will have to pass before Rory Gilmore starts raising some hell?”
Groundhog Day au on Nag Hammadi is Where They Found the Gnostic Gospels.

My notes:

This is amazing. One of the best fics I’ve read. Lovely character growth, introspection, and even a little X-File that Jess and Rory need to work together on to solve.

I Said Honey

Looking for a star to pray on, or wish on, or something like that.
Maybe Vala and Daniel would be less complicated if they knew what they actually wanted.

Between the scenes of episodes with Daniel and Vala: Spoilers starting from “Prometheus Unbound” and moving forward from there.
